Later, Monroe and McCoy played together for a short time in a band called Bolin. During this time, while rehearsing in a basement of a church in Töölö, Monroe met guitarist Andy McCoy (then known as Antti Hulkko) McCoy's band, Briard, was also rehearsing there at the time. From 1976 to 1979, Monroe played in a band called Madness. Some other favourite bands of Monroe's at the time included: Alice Cooper, The New York Dolls, Led Zeppelin, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Little Richard. Monroe states in the Hanoi Rocks autobiography All Those Wasted Years that one of the first times he was exposed to rock n' roll was when he saw Black Sabbath's 1970 Paris performance on television. His father, Pentti Fagerholm (1935–2015), was a very well known Finnish radio personality and reporter. Michael Monroe was born Matti "Makke" Fagerholm on 17 June 1962. A planned collaboration with ex- Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens failed to pan out, as it appeared that Monroe completely disappeared. Many assumed that Monroe would obtain ever-elusive breakthrough success this second time around, but once more, it was not to be. The album would go on to become Monroe's most successful stateside release (the only one to appear on the Billboard charts), while all of Hanoi Rocks' albums were reissued on Guns N' Roses' short-lived Uzi Suicide label (Monroe also appeared on G n' R's Use Your Illusion releases and The Spaghetti Incident). An initial plan of reissuing Nights failed to pan out, resulting in 1989's Not Fakin' It being the first domestically issued solo Monroe release. Relocating to New York City, Monroe began to pick up the pieces and embarked on a solo career. Despite Monroe and company attempting to carry on with replacements, the promising Hanoi was laid to rest later the next year.
